Super Bowl XLII

The Baltimore Sun has reported today that the Ravens have brought former New York Giants wide receiver, David Tyree, in for a phsyical. Generally, a phsyical will make or break a deal with a player, so one could assume that if all goes as planned, the Ravens may become a little deeper at the wideout position in just a day or two.

Tyree is best known for his spectacular catch at the end of Superbowl 42, grabbing the ball with one hand and pinning it against his helmet to make the completion. If you lived under a rock during 2008, here is the video.

Just a few days ago, the Giants announced that they were cutting Tyree because of the depth they have at wide receiver, as well as his poor performance during the preseason. If he does become the newest Baltimore Raven, he will provide another veteran presence to the offense.

However, Tyree has never been a player that has been known to be a play-maker. He has a Pro Bowl appearance under his belt, being named in 2005 but he went as a special teams player, not a wide receiver. Even during the Giants’ Superbowl year, Tyree only amassed 4 receptions all season. His reputation among fans around the league grew tremendously after being involved so heavily in the outcome of the Superbowl. But other than his 15 minutes of fame on the big stage, Tyree has never been a starting receiver in the NFL.

Tyree spent last season on the injured reserve after he suffered a knee injury in training camp. He is 29 years old and has been in the league since 2003.
