Gear Up For Ravens Football

Are The Ravens Being Bitten By The Injury Bug?

January 11th, 2010 at 3:13 pm

With the Ravens headed to Indianapolis for Saturday’s divisional game against the Colts, fans would love to hope that injuries don’t serve to be detrimental to the chances of a Baltimore win. Todd Heap and Joe Flacco top the list of players who are working their way through pain in order to help their team’s chances of advancing through the post season.

Chicago Bears v Baltimore Ravens

Todd Heap suffered a “back stinger” late in the 4th quarter of the game against New England on Sunday. The Baltimore Sun reported the injury as one that Heap would be able to play through, but not without pain. No fear, Ravens’ fans. The Baltimore tight end won’t let his latest injury keep him from taking the field.

“I’m hurting pretty good right now,” Heap said. “We’ll see how it feels. I played through worse last year.”

Joe Flacco has also been playing through his own injury, and it was very evident in his play on Sunday. Flacco has been bothered by an injured hip, which may or may not explain his inability to throw the ball with much power.

Here is to hoping that Flacco can recover quickly. A performance like his last week won’t do much good against the speedy defense of the Indianapolis Colts. Then again, Joe has a reputation of being a tough player, and when he says that he feels fine, our every inclination should be to believe him.

The real test will be on Saturday night when Flacco takes the field, a week removed from a game during which we saw an extremely conservative pass offense. Was it because Flacco’s injury is worse than what we know? Not according to Joe, who says that he would have been fully capable of throwing the ball 30 times if needed.

Another notable Raven that was listed as questionable before the game against New England was Terrell Suggs. Suggs suffered a knee injury before week 17, but has shown little sign of being slowed down. Against the Pats, Suggs was able to get pressure Tom Brady constantly, and forced a 1st quarter fumble. Without any reason to doubt his inability to play, Suggs will be on the field next week against the Colts.

FOR the most wild, yet most homely prediction which I am about to pen, I neither expect nor solicit belief. Mad indeed would I be to expect it, in a case where my very senses reject their own evidence. Yet, mad am I not - and very surely do I not dream...for on the 16th day of our present month the evil of past deeds and stolen legacies will be resolved ...the ghost of John Unitas wears purple ! Ravens will break the Colts.
